İt must have been amazing to walk around the complete library back in those days. The reconstruction of the facade is much appreciated. Towering above as you enter an ancient place of study. Even the cats stand in awe basking under the winter sun. Posing as the observers pass by. Really enjoyed the time spent there. Thank you to all across time who made it happen.

The Library of Celsus was built around 2,000 years ago in 117 AD by Gaius Julius Aquila to honor his father Tiberius Julius Celsus (A senator in Roman Empire). The library was "one of the most impressive buildings in the Roman Empire" and built to store 12,000 scrolls and to serve as a mausoleum for Celsus, who is buried in a crypt beneath the library in a decorated marble sarcophagus. Besides the library there was a shopping center where Romans used to drop their wives during the time they spent in library. It was the third largest library in the ancient world.

Part of the open air museum of the ancient city Ephesus, the celsus library is one of the best preserved structures within the museum. It used to be one of the largest and most important libraries in the world, but now is only a shadow of what it once was. If you are in the museum already you should see this, it is often crowded by tourists taking pictures.

One of the biggest libraries of the Roman and Byzantine times, the facade still reveals the magnificence that would have been. Tip: Ephesus has two gates. You can cover the entire place with stops for pictures and examining structures around at normal pace in 3 hours if you start at one gate and end at the other.
